The volume of retail trade sales in the country decreased by 2.6% from November to December, informed the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Thursday (9). This is second consecutive fall.
In the accumulated of 2022, retail advanced 1% – the smallest growth since 2016, when it marked a 6.2% decrease. Compared to the same period of 2021, the sector increased by 0.4%.
The market expected a 0.7% decline in the monthly comparison, according to a Reuters survey, and an annual increase of 2.40%.
“This accumulated result for the year is very close to that of previous years. In 2021, for example, there was an accumulated gain of 1.4%, so, in 2022, there is a similar growth, but even more timid”, said the research manager, Cristiano Santos, in a statement.
“In addition, it is very concentrated, in terms of variation, in the fuel and lubricants sector, which accumulated an increase of 16.6% in the year, a great distance for the accumulated result of this activity in 2021 (0.3%).”
