Retail sales fall in January but less than expected

The January retail sales in Canada fell 1.1%. The data was negative, but better than the market consensus, which was due to a 3% decrease. Sales regardless of how many cars fell 1.2% in January, while the consensus was for a decline of 2.8%. In December they had fallen 3.4% and 4.1% respectively.

The preliminary estimate indicates that in February a 0.4% rebound in retail sales.

The loonie was not affected after the data. USD / CAD continued to approach the 1.2500 area.
