The October retail sales in Canada rose 0.4%, higher than the market consensus which was for an increase of 0.2%. Excluding vehicles, sales repeated the September number, against the expectation of a 0.2% increase. In the previous month, sales had risen 1.1% and without taking into account cars 1%.
This is the sixth consecutive monthly increase. The preliminary estimate for November aims to register no changes compared to October.
The data had no impact on the loonie (CAD). USD / CAD held around 1.2750, with gains for the day.
