Greece will support any European Union line on sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, including measures to cut Moscow off from the global SWIFT payment system, a senior government official told Reuters on Saturday.
“Greece will support the EU sanctions line, including SWIFT,” the official said, declining to be named.
Such a move, if made, would signal a further escalation of coordinated Western sanctions against Russia and hamper the business activities of Russian companies.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday, saying Greece was in favor of tougher EU sanctions against Russia after its attack and was ready to help.
