Four out of five Americans fear their country is descending into chaos after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. At the same time, concern is growing that the Nov. 5 election could spark more political violence, according to an Ipsos poll for the Reuters news agency that ended yesterday. The two-day poll showed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump holding a narrow lead over Democratic President Joe Biden, 43 percent to 41 percent, which is within the margin of statistical error, suggesting Trump’s assassination attempt did not mark any spectacular conversion of public opinion. However, 80% of respondents shared the opinion that the situation in the country is “getting out of control”. The poll, which was conducted online, involved 1,202 adults from across the country, including 992 registered voters.
