Reuters: UBS gives its staff traveling to Hong Kong money for hotel quarantine

The UBS Group is offering its Hong Kong staff $ 2,000 a day ($ 256.45) to cover mandatory hotel quarantine costs as the city maintains one of the strictest pandemic restrictions in the world.

In a document held by Reuters, the bank states that full-time employees up to the CEO will be eligible for payments from now until the end of November 2022.

A UBS representative in Hong Kong confirmed the contents of the document.

Hong Kong requires 21 days of mandatory quarantine in hotels, for those arriving from most countries, which (quarantine) is paid by the traveler.

Also last week, Hong Kong banned travelers from four African countries, and will extend that ban to travelers who have been to Australia, Canada, Israel and six European countries over the past 21 days, due to concerns about Omicron mutation.

Hong Kong is one of the last places in the world to promote a zero-case strategy and has one of the strictest travel bans.

This strategy is a headache for large companies, such as banks trying to keep their staff in Hong Kong.

JP Morgan gives some of its staff a one-time payment of up to $ 5,000 to cover the cost of quarantine.
