Revelation for an increase in the price of the Pfizer vaccine by 7.5 euros for the EU

A sensational revelation was made by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov regarding the new big contract that the European Union wants to make with the Pfizer-BioNTech for the supply of vaccines from 2022. As he mentioned, the supply of these vaccines will be done at a significantly higher price per dose.

The EU wants to reach a new agreement with the two companies to supply up to 1.8 billion vaccines by 2022 and 2023, according to Reuters.

In statements Sunday, Borisov said the EU was negotiating a new one at 19.5 euros per installment. “Prices are rising rapidly,” said the Bulgarian prime minister.

“The price of Pfizer was 12 euros, then increased to 15.5 euros. Now for 2022 and 2023 the EU is negotiating a contract at the price of 19.5 euros “, he said.

This is a significant increase of the cut from 15.5 euros per installment paid by EU for the 600 million Pfizer vaccines he has agreed to so far, according to an internal EU document and officials cited by Reuters.

An official involved in talks with vaccine makers confirmed Borisov’s price for the new contract, but stressed that negotiations had not been completed.

The new contract will also cover the mutations, which means that the companies will offer enhanced vaccines in case the mutations dominate, a second official noted.

A few days ago it became known that European Commission intends to call for tenders to supply up to 1.8 billion doses of vaccine.

The plans presented by Sandra Galina, Director General of the Directorate-General for Health, in which all Member States are represented, are already very detailed. According to them, the European Commission wants to conclude framework agreements for the delivery of around 900 million doses of second generation vaccines. It also wants to secure an additional 900 million doses. The new framework agreements are intended to cover the vaccination doses required for repeat vaccinations.
