US government agencies were watching the visits of foreign nationals to Elon Musk facilities, according to a Wall Street Journal report, amid fears of possible attempts to influence the billionaire businessman. The monitoring took place in the years 2022 and 2023 and involved, inter alia, by the Ministry of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Department of Justice, the newspaper said, citing sources with knowledge of the subject. The focus of the research were people who visited Musk from Eastern European countries and other parts of the world. Elon Musk, Managing Director of Tesla and head of a total of five companies, maintains sensitive contracts with the US government and has gained unprecedented access to top officials from around the world.
