REvil hackers demand from Kaseya a ransom of $ 70 million in BTC

Another attack by REvil hackers paralyzed the networks of at least 200 American companies last week. The ransom amount for decrypting the data is about $ 70 million in BTC.

According to ABC News, citing a cybersecurity researcher whose company was involved in the incident response, the REvil hacker group attacked software developer Kaseya and used network management capabilities to spread the ransomware virus through the cloud.

According to another publication, more than 1 million devices were infected as a result of the attack. REvil is demanding a ransom of $ 70 million in BTC in exchange for a decoder for infected devices.

“On Friday, we launched an attack on the external management service provider,” the article on the darknet blog Happy Blog. “More than a million systems were infected.”

John Hammond of cybersecurity firm Huntress Labs noted that Kaseya serves businesses of various sizes around the world.

“Ultimately, this attack could affect businesses of any size or scale. This is a colossal and devastating attack on the supply chain, ”Hammond said.

After the attack became known, Kaseya posted a message on its website stating that only “a small number of customers” were affected by the attack.

Recall that recently one of the world’s largest meat producers JBS Holdings paid $ 11 million in BTC to REvil hackers who attacked the company’s information system, which led to malfunctions.
