RG no Poupatempo: As the judge who used fake name in SP was discovered

Retired judge José Eduardo Franco dos Reis, who for about 40 years presented himself with the fake name of Edward Albert Lancelot Dodd Caterbury Caterham Wickfield, was discovered in October 2024 while trying to take the duplicate of his identity portfolio.

According to the complaint filed by the São Paulo Public Prosecution Service – and it was accepted by the court last week – José Eduardo went to Poupatempo da Sé, in the central region of São Paulo, to obtain the duplicate of the document.

The complaint reports that “once again falsely signed the IIRGD ID form [Instituto de Identificação Ricardo Gumbleton Daunt] Like Edward Albert Lancelot Dodd Canterbury Caterham Wickfield. ”For this, he would have presented a counterfeit birth certificate.

However, when the fingerprints were collected from the “Fictitious Edward Albert Lancelot Dodd Caterbury Caterham Wickfield”, it was found that they beat those of José Eduardo Franco dos Reis.

Given the inconsistency between the data, a preliminary inquiry was established at the Police Station to Combat Document Fraud and Biometrics, “in which it was proved that, in addition to the duplicate of General Registration caused by the creation of the fictional person Edward Albert Dodd Caterbury Caterham Wickfield, the accused Jose Eduardo Franco dos Reis also obtained double electoral registration and double registration in Registration of Individuals [CPF] From the IRS of Brazil, in addition to a passport it used to leave the national territory after discovering fraud ”.

First presentations with the fake name

The MP informs that, in 1973, José Eduardo went to the former civil and criminal identification division of the Public Security Secretariat in Águas da Prata (SP) to take a ID, when he was “correctly qualified as José Eduardo Franco dos Reis, son of Vitalina Franco dos Reis and José Eduardo dos Reis”.

Seven years later, however, he signed an IIRGD identification record by the name of Edward Albert Lancelot Dodd Canterbury Caterham Wickfield, “attributing to being the son of Richard Lancelot Dodd Caterbury Caterham Wickfield and Anne Dubois Vincent Wickfield.”

“To this end, he presented copies of a corporation certificate issued by the Brazilian Army, a portfolio of a Labor Public Prosecution Service and a work and social security portfolio, as well as a voter title,” says the complaint.

The MP points out that “such documents, at the time, did not have any graphic devices or security materials, being easily falsifiable.” “From another band, until the adoption of electronic systems, except for research in criminal investigations, there were no conditions to compare digit-patular impressions upon civil identification, which is why it was not possible to identify that it was the same person.”

For this reason, José Eduardo was denounced for ideological falsehood. The complaint was accepted last week and now he is a defendant. The retired magistrate, however, is on the run. THE CNN Try to locate his defense.

Last Friday (4), the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP) ruled last Friday (4) for the suspension of payment of retirement to the judge. The decision for the administrative suspension of “payments of any natures that would be made to him” to the retired judge was taken by the president of the TJ-SP, Judge Fernando Antonio Torres Garcia, “until new order”.

In 1995, shortly after passing the contest for judge, José Eduardo gave an interview in which he said he was a descendant of “British nobles”.
