For many years, computer component manufacturers have given the user the opportunity to decorate almost any component of the system with RGB lighting – from case fans to RAM or even power supplies. But for those who have already managed to decorate their PC in the spirit of the Christmas tree, but are not ready to stop there, at CES 2023, Showcase Hologram officially introduced holographic panels for installation inside the case. It is enough to have a transparent side panel for the system to sparkle with new colors.
In total, Showcase Hologram currently has two holographic panels of different sizes – one occupies a small space inside the case, allowing you to decorate some part of the transparent side panel, and the second can almost completely cover the glass insert in the system. USB is used for power supply, so if desired, the panel will flicker even after the computer is turned off, magnetic fasteners are used for installation inside the case, and the panels themselves are made not of glass, but of acrylic (probably cheaper and more practical during transportation).
Showcase Hologram employees said that a user can upload animated or static images from a smartphone, but it should be borne in mind that black is not supported – the features of the volumetric imaging mechanism simply do not provide for the demonstration of this element of the color palette. Accordingly, the user can easily set animations on a black background and they will be displayed as if there is simply no background – very convenient when looking for interesting screensavers. And if you believe the journalists who visited the exhibition, the holograms look quite unusual and immediately attract attention.
The problem is that it is very difficult to convey the quality of holographic content in photos or videos, because the camera simply cannot capture the frequency at which the image or animation is displayed. And the displayed content cannot be tied to the temperature of the processor, for example, or the load of the video card – an exclusively decorative thing. In addition, it should be understood that this novelty is a rather niche thing – at a price of $ 149 for a small panel and $ 199 for a large one, such decorations for the system will be bought as massively as gaming laptops for 5-6 thousand dollars.
