Rihanna to headline the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show

Must be the NFL in the brain: pop icon and businesswoman, Rihanna will perform at next year’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, announced the NFL this Sunday (25).

The news comes after Rihanna and the NFL tweeted a photo of the artist’s hand holding a soccer ball on Sunday afternoon, sparking speculation that she would be the halftime artist.

In the NFL statement, Jay-Z, whose entertainment agency Roc Nation is one of several executive producers on the halftime showcalled Rihanna a “generational talent”.

“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman from humble beginnings who has exceeded expectations at every step,” Jay-Z said in the statement. “A person born on the tiny island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists of all time. Self-made in business and entertainment.”

Rihanna, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, has built a business empire in addition to her successful music career. In 2021, the Forbes announced who became a billionaire and the richest musician in the world, thanks to her Fenty Beauty makeup line and Savage x Fenty lingerie line.

The singer joins a cadre of musical icons — including Prince, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez — who took the stage for the halftime show. Last year’s performance with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar, has earned five Emmy nominations, taking the award on three occasions.

The 57th Super Bowl will take place on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It will be the first with Apple Music as a partner on the Halftime Show, according to the NFL announcement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the stage at the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show,” said Seth Dudowsky, NFL chief music officer, in the statement. “Rihanna is a unique artist in a generation that has been a cultural force throughout her career.”
