Actress Riley Keough, star of the series “Daisy Jones & The Six”, revealed that the name of her daughter, the result of her romance with Australian stuntman and actor Ben Smith-Petersen, is a tribute to her grandfather, Elvis Presley, and her brother, Benjamin Storm Keough, died 2020, age 27.
“This is Tupelo”, she said, as published by “People” magazine. The child’s full name is Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen.
The 34-year-old artist explained that, originally, she and her husband chose the name, named after the city in Mississippi, in the United States, where Elvis was born, due to the subtle connection with his family.
“It’s funny because we chose her name before the Elvis movie,” he said. “I thought, ‘This is great because it’s not really a very well known word or name in regards to my family, it’s not like Memphis or anything like that,’” she added.
“So when the Elvis movie came out, it was like, Tupelo this and Tupelo that. And I was like, ‘Oh no’ […] But it’s okay,” the actress said.
The little one also shares the same middle name as Keough’s brother.
surrogacy
Riley said she and Ben welcomed their daughter via surrogate in August 2022. The announcement came in January of this year during a memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley.
“I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and sisters,” said Ben Smith-Petersen about his mother-in-law when reading his wife’s words.
The release of Keough’s daughter’s name comes days after she was named sole trustee of her late mother’s estate, Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January aged 54.
