This Wednesday (2), the Annular Eclipse of the Sun should occur — an astronomical phenomenon known as ‘Ring of Fire ‘ because it forms a bright circle in the sky.
The phenomenon happens when the Moon aligns between the Earth and the Sun, and its apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun. Thus, the Moon’s shadow does not completely cover the Sun. The effect is similar to a ring.
The eclipse will be seen as annular in a narrow band that passes through the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and the southern tip of the Earth. South America which includes Chile and Argentina, according to the National Observatory (ON).
In Brazil, the phenomenon must be visible in the southern part of the Southeast and Central-West regions and the entire South region . The further south, the larger the eclipsed area will be, according to ON astronomer Josina Nascimento.
How to observe the eclipse
The “Ring of Fire” should be seen close to the sunset . Therefore, the recommendation is to be in a place with a clear view to the west. The event time depends on the state of Brazil.
“Under no circumstances look directly at the Sun without adequate protection. Dark glasses, X-ray plates or other homemade filters do not protect against damage. It is essential to use certified filters such as special glasses for solar observation or 14″ welding glasses, warns the astronomer.
