Ringo Starr bets on country and releases new album; listen

Diving into country, the singer Ringo Starr 84, released a new album this Friday (18). The album, titled “Look Up” is the former Beatle’s first since 2019 and his first production of its kind in more than 50 years.

With production by the composer T Bone Burnett in total, there are 11 original songs recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles, in the United States. On the musician’s official website, it is also disclosed that he sang and played drums on all the tracks and co-wrote the album’s ending, “Thankful” with Alison Krauss.

Ringo Starr’s lifelong love of country music has been apparent and celebrated throughout the star’s career. He played and wrote countless country songs throughout his years with the Beatles, such as “Act Naturally”, “What Goes On”, “Don’t Pass Me By” .

Already in a solo career, Starr’s second album, “Beaucoups of Blues” released in 1970, was also country. “I’ve always loved country music. And when I asked T Bone to write a song for me, I didn’t even think at the time that it would be a country song — but of course it was, and it was so beautiful,” he recalled in promotion of the album.
