The level of the Acre River rose to 16.86 meters this Thursday (29), in Rio Branco (AC), and is expected to increase in the coming hours. According to the Hydrological Alert System (SAH), released by the Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB), the river could reach 17.10 meters by 2pm this Friday (1st).
If the agency's prediction comes true, the new mark would be just 4 positions below the highest height ever recorded: 18.4 meters, on March 4, 2015. In 2023, the city recorded 17.77 m in this same period, the second biggest flood in history.
After declaring a state of calamity in Acre last Sunday (25) due to the floods that hit the region, Governor Gladson Cameli visited this Thursday (29) the municipalities of Santa Rosa do Purus and Jordão, which are among the 17 affected in a total of 22 in the state.
Meanwhile, in the city of Xapuri (AC) the river reached its second highest level in history. According to the SGB, the level recorded this Thursday was 16.4 meters, second only to the 2015 record, when the river reached 18.24 meters.
After reaching a historic high of 15.62 meters in Brasileia (AC), the city most affected by the floods, the river dropped its level by more than 40 centimeters and reached 15.18 meters this Thursday.
In a more recent note, the state government stated that, in Brasileia alone, more than 14 thousand people were affected, 911 homeless and 1,011 homeless. In addition, 12 neighborhoods were affected, 16 shelters were set up, more than 580 incidents were attended to and a workforce of more than 500 people, including civilians and military personnel, are working in the region.
