THE Rio Coffee Nation the largest gathering of specialty coffees in Brazil, arrives at 5th edition between the days October 18th and 20th . Based in Rio de Janeiro, the event takes place for the first time inside the Jockey Club, in the EXC space. The edition will feature more than 50 producers partners and will bring together experts and drink lovers.
In addition to the new address, the edition’s new features include pairing cachaças with coffees combinations with different cheeses and coffee roasts live, free tastings , classes and coffee happy hour .
During the three days, between Friday and Sunday, experts from across the country will come together to encourage the professionalization and culture of the coffee market, with a focus on sustainability and small producers. Fair trade, the connection with tourism and different extraction and roasting methods will be on the agenda.
Lectures and awards
Important names in Rio gastronomy will be present at lectures and workshops, including João Diamante, Flávia Quaresma, Paula Prandini, Elia Schramm, Pedro Coronha, Alex Miranda and Alex Mesquita.
The event also hosts the 5th edition of the Best Roasted Coffee for Espresso in which the first three placed will receive certification from ABIC – Brazilian Coffee Industry Association. The 2nd edition of the coffee championship will also be held Best Barista .
Among the gastronomic options, there will be food trucks from Ella Pizzaria, TT Burger, Café da Carol, Guto&Tata and Croissant Rio.
It is worth mentioning that part of the ticket sales will be donated to the project “Diamonds in the Kitchen ”, by chef João Diamante, who trains vulnerable students in Rio’s favelas to work or undertake in the sector. This year, the project won the “Champions of Change” award from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Special coffees at Rio Coffee Nation
Rio Coffee Nation is led by Martina Barth d’Avila marketing and communications executive with over 26 years of experience. The meeting aims to transform the Marvelous City into the capital of special grains.
According to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) Sensory Assessment Methodology, a specialty coffee must reach at least 80 points on a scale of up to 100, with aroma, sweetness, acidity and other items evaluated.
