As of this Tuesday (26), the use of speakers on the beaches of the city of Rio de Janeiro is prohibited. The decree with the decision, signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD), was published in the Official Gazette of the municipality.
The measure condemns the use of “speakers or any means of sound amplification” that cause noise pollution on the edge of the city. According to the decree, it will be up to the Municipal Guard to supervise the measure. Those who disrespect the norm will have the equipment collected by city hall agents.
According to the text published in the Official Gazette, the exceptions for the use of the devices are subject to authorization from the city hall, with the aim of promoting “sports or leisure activities”.
“The use of sound amplification equipment will be allowed exclusively for the promotion of sports or leisure activities duly authorized by the Executive Power.
Events authorized by the Municipality, which provides for the authorization of events in public and private areas in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, are also allowed”, highlights the excerpt from the decree.
