Rio de Janeiro gains samba tour with attractions in the Rio suburbs

The city of Rio de Janeiro won the project Samba Route which features themed itineraries with interactive tools in places marked by the historical strength of samba.

The objective is to promote the local economy and strengthen international tourism in the Marvelous City. The initiative was officially launched last week by Embratur (Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion).

THE first project script passes through 10 points linked to the history of samba in the neighborhood of Oswaldo Cruz in the north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. baptized by Samba Path in Oswaldo Cruz the itinerary covers places such as Casa do Candeia, Feira das Yabás, Quadra da Portela, Bar do Seu Nozinho, Casa da Tia Doca and Circo São Jorge.

The route is curated by Marquinhos de Oswaldo Cruz creator of the Samba Train and the Yabás Fair; from the Black diaspora which promotes and values black memory; and of Karol Duarte from the tour operator Guiadas Urbanas.

The Samba Route

Other routes should be launched soon in addition to Caminhos do Samba in Oswaldo Cruz. To this end, interactive maps, audio guides, self-guided bilingual itineraries and augmented reality tools are part of the routes.

Free guided tours for foreigners will take place on Saturdays, where visitors will be supported by audio guides and narratives accessible via QR codes. The project also promotes the training of guides and tourism students with a focus on routes and afrotourism.

Rota do Samba is an initiative by EmbraturLAB, the agency’s innovation arm, which also launched this year the Gastronomic Tourism Challenge a startup competition with the aim of finding solutions that promote national gastronomic tourism through destinations, routes and experiences.

It is worth remembering that other themed routes through Rio de Janeiro were launched this year, such as the route Literary River and the Machado de Assis Route which highlight significant addresses in the city based on the legacy of literature. Rio de Janeiro is even a Creative City of Literature by UNESCO.
