Rio de Janeiro government expands mega police operation to 14 communities

The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro announced this Wednesday (17) that it has expanded Operation Ordo to four more communities: Covanca, Jordão, Santa Maria and Bateau Mouche.

All of them are in the Jacarepaguá neighborhood, in the western part of the state. The expansion was possible due to the advancement of intelligence information from the Civil Police, according to government information.

Governor Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ) stated that the police’s mega-operation has been very successful so far. More than 60 people have already been arrested, including seven minors.

“We are expanding so that the population of these communities and neighborhoods can regain the right to come and go. Intelligence work is essential to guarantee the well-being of residents, merchants and businesspeople who invest legally in these regions,” said Castro.

According to the state’s Secretary of Public Security, Victor Santos, the operation has no end date.

“Intelligence work never stops, it is 24 hours a day. Therefore, the need to expand the action was identified. The State is focused on combating and suffocating organizations,” he emphasized.

The integrated action has the support of public and essential service agencies and concessionaires and the City of Rio.

Ordo Integrated Action

The Civil and Military Police of Rio de Janeiro launched, on the morning of last Monday (15), an operation that brings together several state bodies, the city hall and concessionaires.

The list includes locations dominated by both drug trafficking and militias. Around 2,000 public agents will be mobilized per day for the action.

The mega-operation initially covered 10 communities in the state: City of God, Blue Gardenia, Rio das Pedras, Morro do Banco, Fontela, Muzema, Tijuquinha, Pai João Farm, Terreirão and César Maia.

The action aims to financially suffocate organized crime and combat the high crime rates recorded in the west of the city.
