Rio de Janeiro holds D-Day of vaccination

The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (SMS-Rio) reported that this Saturday (4th) the “D-day of vaccination” will be held against influenza for the entire population over six months of age, regardless of whether they are part of some priority group.

Other immunizers will also be available, such as the measles vaccine for children aged 6 months to 4 years; from Covid-19 from 5 years, for those who still have an open dose; and, in the Primary Care units, the other immunization agents in the child and adolescent calendar to update the vaccination booklet, in case there is any delay.

The vaccine against Covid-19 will be offered to update vaccination schedules of all audiences already summoned. It is worth noting that children between 5 and 11 years old receive two doses and adolescents (from 12 years old) and adults must have a booster dose.

“It is very important that, especially the elderly, pregnant women and puerperal women (women up to 45 days after childbirth), people who are more vulnerable to disease complications, attend health posts”, declared the municipal secretary of Health, Rodrigo Prado.

In all, there will be 450 vaccination posts, which will operate from 8 am to 5 pm, Brasília time.

So far, in the influenza vaccination campaign, just over one million doses have been administered to people in priority groups. According to the secretary, after D-day, the flu vaccine will continue to be available in health units for the entire population, until stocks last.

Expectation

The expectation of the Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro is that 353 thousand children are vaccinated against measles. For the campaign, the vaccine used is the MMR, offered in an additional dose, regardless of the vaccination status presented.

So far, just over 30% of the city’s children have been vaccinated against measles in the campaign.
