Rio de Janeiro police seize “treasure” of Nazi souvenirs, worth about 3 million euros

The police at Rio de Janeiro confiscated a “treasure” of Nazi souvenirs and weapons, worth about 3 million euros, from the house of a Brazilian accused of raping a minor.

Investigators found more than 1,000 items in the 58-year-old suspect’s home. Among other things, there were Nazi costumes, magazines, paintings, Nazi emblems, photographs of Adolf Hitler, its flags and medals Third Reich. They also found weapons and ammunition of that time.

Police officers had gone home to anticipate a warrant of arrest in the non-named suspect, who is accused of rape of minor and for abuse of other children in the residential complex where he lived in the western Rio. The 58-year-old is also accused of illegal possession of weapons and racial discrimination.

“He is an intelligent, eloquent man, but at the same time he is a Holocaust denier, he is homophobic, he is a pedophile and he says he is chasing homosexuals,” he told Reuters. Louis Armont, the head of the investigation. “I am not a doctor, but it seems to me that he is an insane psychopath,” he added.

THE Armont explained that the suspect came from a wealthy family of investors and most likely used his inheritance to build his collection. As he said, a uniform of a high-ranking executive Nazi can cost up to 250,000 euros.

Authorities are investigating the suspect’s links to Nazi and other far-right organizations.

THE Armont said he would need to find a museum to pick up the collection. “It is something completely unusual and shocking,” he commented.
