Of the 26 capitals of the country and the Federal District, only Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Boa Vista (Roraima) will have a New Year’s Eve party promoted by the city halls. In Rio, preparations have already started and 25 sound towers are being set up on Copacabana beach, one of the ten fireworks points in the city.
There will be no stage, however, DJ MAM, from a distance, will command the music for whoever is present. In addition to the sound towers, medical stations and chemical toilets are being assembled, as well as the installation of sound and special lighting.
There will be ten ferries positioned in the Copacabana sea, which will guarantee 16 minutes of fireworks.
In order to avoid agglomerations, access to Copacabana beach will be restricted, as informed by Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD).
From 7pm onwards, cars will be blocked (except cars for personal use or taxis with passengers with proof of work, residence or accommodation). At 8:00 pm, the public transport (bus and subway) will be blocked; and at 10 pm, the block will be total and it will no longer be possible to access the neighborhood with any type of vehicle – including residents, workers and guests.
In addition to Copacabana, there will be fireworks at nine other points around the city, in an attempt, according to the city hall, to avoid the “need for large displacements by the population”.
The presentations will take place in Flamengo, Barra da Tijuca and Recreio, in Sepetiba, in Piscinão de Ramos, Penha, Ilha do Governador, Madureira and Bangu.
The city hall authorized the operation of kiosks along the Rio de Janeiro coast. The only restriction will be the non-use of fences that could close off public space. The inspection will be in charge of the Public Order Secretariat (Seop), which will work with 3,048 agents (among municipal guards and agents of agencies linked to the secretariat) on New Year’s Eve.
Among the coastal cities of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the capital, the only ones with a New Year’s Eve party will be Angra dos Reis and Paraty, on Costa Verde, famous tourist destinations. Another 13 will continue the fireworks display, especially Niterói, in the metropolitan region, as well as Arraial do Cabo, Búzios and Cabo Frio, which usually receive a large number of visitors at this time of year.

According to a survey carried out by CNN Agency, 24 capitals and the Federal District decided to cancel the New Year’s parties.
There will be no programming in Campo Grande (MS), Fortaleza (CE), Macapá (AP). Belo Horizonte (MG), Salvador (BA), São Luís (MA), João Pessoa (PB), Teresina (PI), Palmas (TO), Recife (PE), Aracaju (SE), Brasília (DF), Belém ( PA), Goiânia (GO), Vitória (ES), Porto Alegre (RS), Cuiabá (MT), São Paulo (SP), Florianópolis (SC), Manaus (AM), Porto Velho (RO), Curitiba (PR) and Rio Branco (AC).
Maceió (AL) and Natal (RN) will only maintain fireworks.
