CCR, the concessionaire responsible for the Presidente Dutra Highway, which connects the city of São Paulo to the city of Rio de Janeiro, estimates that more than 494,741 vehicles will pass through Via Dutra on the 28th and 29th of December.
When the holiday returns, around 397,000 vehicles should travel through Dutra. According to the company, peak hours between the 28th and 29th are from 7am to 9pm. When returning, on the 1st and 2nd, the movement should be greatest between 7am and 8pm.
Within the city of Rio de Janeiro, the city hall prepared a special scheme. The municipality will count on the support of 205 traffic operators to coordinate street traffic, in addition to 1,500 municipal agents and guards.
Access to Copacabana
One of the most famous places in the city to spend New Year's Eve is Copacabana beach, with twelve minutes of fireworks and two stages that host big names in national music, such as Luísa Sonza, Gloria Groove, Ludmilla, Jorge Aragão and Belo .
According to the city of Rio de Janeiro, on December 31st, the blockades in Copacabana and Leme begin at 7am, with the closure of the Avenida Atlântica lane along the waterfront, as occurs on weekends and holidays. At 4pm, it will be completely closed in both directions. At 7:30 pm, all access to the neighborhood will close, with the exception of buses and taxis that will only be able to access Copacabana until 10 pm.
Parking will be prohibited along the entire length of Avenida Atlântica and on its access and exit roads from 6pm this Friday (30), which accounts for more than three thousand spaces.
On the 1st, access to Copacabana will be open to all vehicles from 5am. On Avenida Atlântica, the building lane, will open at 10 am and will operate in reverse, as occurs on Sundays and holidays.
Flight expectations
Between December 28th and January 2nd, Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, RIOgaleão, expects a movement of 245,775 thousand passengers for the New Year celebrations. According to the airport, the number is 99% more than the same period last year.
1,110 domestic and 464 international flights are planned, 162% and 34% more than 2022, respectively.
Santos Dumont Airport, also in Rio de Janeiro, is expected to receive around 337.7 thousand passengers on 3,155 flights scheduled between December 16, 2022 and January 3, 2023, according to data from Infraero.
The numbers are 42% below those recorded in the previous period, when the airport registered 583.8 thousand passengers and 5,421 flights.
