The government of Rio de Janeiro announced this Friday (10) a package of recommendations for New Year’s Eve parties.
Among the measures published by the state secretary of Health Alexandre Chieppe, are recommendations for city halls to avoid and contain agglomerations at events.
The standards were decided by the Technical Advisory Group for Public Health Events, of the State Department of Health (SES). The body, formed by specialists from public universities, met last Wednesday (8) to discuss and take decisions. The minutes of the meeting, however, have not yet been released.
The resolution does not impose restrictions on events such as fireworks, as long as strategies are guaranteed to avoid the concentration of the public in the place, and recommends that artistic presentations be avoided.
“Activities are not recommended, even in an open environment, in which it is not possible to avoid the crowding of people (whether on site or while traveling), such as concerts or artistic presentations in squares, public places and beaches”, highlights an excerpt from the publication of the State Department of Health (SES).
In addition to the recommendations to avoid agglomerations, the text also brings the importance of using a face mask and hand hygiene with alcohol gel. The publication also points out the need for inspection in events, whether public or private.
“It is up to the public authorities that authorize or carry out the events to implement measures that limit public access, in order to avoid crowding, such as restriction of operating hours of modes, access barriers, limitation of parking spaces on public roads, as well as others are necessary”, emphasizes another point of the decree.
Capital confirms fireworks
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes announced on Thursday (9) that the capital will have fireworks at 10 different points, including Copacabana beach, a place known worldwide for the end-of-the-year party. The neighborhoods of Barra da Tijuca, Recreio, Flamengo, Ilha do Governador, Ramos, Bangu, Sepetiba, Madureira and Penha will also have fireworks shows.
Eduardo Paes confirmed the holding of the party during a press conference at the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio), in Cidade Nova, even though he knows there will be agglomeration.
“Of course there will be, in fact, agglomeration in the city of Rio is not prohibited. [aglomeração], if you want this weekend walk with me around the city. For 15 weeks we have allowed agglomeration”, said the mayor at the time.
Sought, the City of Rio has not yet expressed itself on the new recommendation of the state.
