This is what a survey of the CNN which used as a basis the information disclosed by the three largest travel agencies in Brazil. The data, compiled by the report this Friday (4), relied on information from Decolar, CVC and Kayak.

Leading travel company Latin America, Decolar prepared a ranking of destinations most in demand by Brazilians last year. With ease in the first place appears the city of Rio de Janeiro. Then emerge the municipality of Gramado, in Rio Grande do Sul, and Porto de Galinhas, in Pernambuco.

The search engine Kayak also showed the preference of Brazilians for Rio de Janeiro last year. The platform identified an increase of more than 200% in the volume of searches for travel packages to the capital of Rio de Janeiro in 2021, when compared to moments before the coronavirus.

The CVC Agency noticed the same movement in the tourism sector in Brazil in 2021. And, in addition to the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the platform highlights the great search for Northeastern cities. Among them, Maceió, Natal, Porto Seguro and Porto de Galinhas were the most visited destinations by Brazilians.

For the interim president of the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (Abav), Ana Carolina Medeiros, the search for the carioca capital is related to the various possibilities for outdoor tourism in the city, tours with a lower probability of contagion by Covid-19.

She also highlights that the greatest demand by Brazilians for the city of Rio took place in a period of restrictions on the entry of Brazilians in other countries.

“Rio de Janeiro has always been a much sought after destination, due to its grandeur and importance. Both for the natural beauty and for the historical context, because it was once the capital of the country. With the borders closed, people sought tours within Brazil, especially those that provided the smallest possible agglomeration. Right away, people think of open environments, like the beach,” said Ana Carolina Medeiros.

“There are Brazilians who like and are used to traveling within the country, this group was not affected in this regard by the pandemic. But there are some Brazilians who only used to travel abroad. And with the health crisis, these people began to look favorably on Rio de Janeiro,” he says.
