A balance released early this Thursday evening (23) by the Civil Defense reveals that the number of people killed due to the rains in Rio Grande do Sul reached 163. The state also accounts for 64 missing and 806 injured.
The number of people affected is 2,342,460, which is equivalent to 21.5% of the state's total population. Of these, 581,643 are homeless and 65,762.
Across the state, 469 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul were hit by the worst environmental tragedy in the history of Rio Grande do Sul, which corresponds to almost 95% of all cities in the state.
Civil Defense also reports that 82,666 people and 12,440 animals have already been rescued since the start of disaster response operations.

Infrastructure
According to Civil Defense, 86,322 points are without electricity in the area under the responsibility of CEEE Equatorial, which is equivalent to 4.6% of the total. In the RGE Sul area, 90,900 points are without power (3% of the total).
In relation to water supply, the Companhia Riograndense de Saneamento (Corsan) informs that its system is normalized and that it “continues working to restore the service at specific points”.
Across the state, 80.3% of schools are back in session and 76% of students have already returned to the classroom.

The state's main airport, Salgado Filho, in Porto Alegre, remains closed indefinitely. Eight airports under the responsibility of the state government operate normally: Capão da Canoa, Carazinho, Erechim, Passo Fundo, Rio Grande, Santo Ângelo, Torres and Canela.
Three other airports granted to the private sector also have normal operation: Bagé, Pelotas and Uruguaiana. Among municipal airports, only Santa Maria operates normally.
