Rio Grande do Sul has a red alert for heavy rains, says Inmet

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a warning of danger resulting from the storm forecast for the central strip of Rio Grande do Sul. Rainfall of between 30 and 100 millimeters (mm) per day and winds that could reach 100 kilometers per hour (km/h) are expected. in addition to the occurrence of hailstorms.

Given the situation, there is a risk of flooding, power outages, damage to crops and falling trees. The most critical period will be from the morning of Tuesday (24) until 3 pm on Wednesday (25).

The areas most at risk include the metropolitan area of ​​Porto Alegre and those located in the western and eastern centers of the state. Areas in the northwest, southeast, southwest and northeast of Rio Grande do Sul will also be affected.

Inmet suggests that residents of these regions do not take shelter under trees in the event of strong winds, as there is a risk of falling trees and electric shocks. It also suggests that vehicles should not be parked near transmission towers and advertising signs.

During times of heavier rain, it is recommended that electrical appliances and the power panel be turned off.
