Rio Grande do Sul has more than 300,000 electricity points out of operation, according to the state government. The high number is due to the heavy rains that hit the state since the beginning of this week.
In absolute numbers, there are 329 thousand customers without available electricity. Of these, 272 thousand are located in the areas in which RGE, the company that operates the service, operates.
According to RGE, the majority of these customers are in flooded areas or in places where teams cannot access them. The company reported that the regions most affected by the problem are Vale do Taquari (113.8 thousand), Vale do Sinos (45 thousand), Vale Rio Pardo (33.3 thousand), and Serra (27.9 thousand).
In an alert to the population, RGE highlighted that residents should stay away from broken wires or tree branches that are falling on the power grid, and that in these cases the advice is to immediately contact the company and the Fire Department.
A CNN the government of Rio Grande do Sul reported that, in addition to the portion of the population without electricity, there are 541 thousand people without access to water, 48 cities without telephone or internet, 210 damaged schools, and 60 roadblocks.
