The State Health Surveillance Center (CEVS) of Rio Grande do Sul issued on Tuesday (1st) a epidemiological alert to dengue and chikungunya after an increase in cases of disease in the state. The document aims to reinforce epidemiological surveillance measures in health services.
According to the warning, a new native case (without travel history) of dengue was confirmed serotype 3 in IjuÃ, in the northwest region of the state. A 72 -year -old man had symptoms of the disease on March 22. The case was confirmed by Lacen on March 27.
THE serotype 3 It is one of four categories of dengue in circulation in Brazil. The symptoms of type 3 dengue are equal to the others: high fever, pain behind the eyes, body pain, reddish spots on the skin, itching, nausea and muscle and joint pain.
Previously, dengue serotype 3 was detected in an imported case in Porto Alegre, and later, in indigenous cases in Sapucaia do Sul. Now, the detection of this serotype in another region lights one warns of the possibility of spreading the virus throughout the state.
Chikungunya cases
To date, three indigenous cases have been confirmed chikungunya In Salvador das Missions, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. Patients, according to the Health Department, are all men aged 58 to 79 years.
On March 21, an epidemiological alert was issued in Carazinho, also in the interior of the state, after 56 cases confirmed of chikungunya in the city.
In view of the presence of Aedes aegypti and the significant increase in confirmed cases of mosquito -transmitted diseases, the alert stressed the need to intensify the sensitization of the care network to identify suspicious cases, immediately notification, as well as their communication to epidemiological and environmental surveillance, to reinforce vector control actions, according to current protocols.
The Secretariat of Health has prepared a list with guidelines for the population. See below:
- Eliminate mosquito proliferation outbreaks in their homes and workplaces;
- Seek medical attention in case of suspected symptoms of dengue or chikungunya;
- Avoid self -medication, especially with medications that may aggravate symptoms;
- Make use of personal protective measures (use of repellents, long sleeve, musketeer) and collective (insecticides, environments repellents, windows and doors, and electric racket).
