Rio Grande do Sul records the fourth death from dengue in 2024

The Health Department of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed, this Monday (19), the fourth death caused by dengue in the year 2024 in the state. The new victim was a 64-year-old woman, with previous comorbidities. The death occurred on the 15th, but confirmation of contamination by the disease only came today (19).

The victim lived in the city of Tenente Portela, in the north of the state. This is the municipality with the highest number of confirmed cases in Rio Grande do Sul in 2024. Of the 4784 confirmed cases across the state this year, 1231 are in the municipality. The 64-year-old victim is the second person to die from the disease in the city this year.

Of the 4784 cases registered this year in the state, 4221 were autochthonous, when the contagion occurs within the state itself. Last year, Rio Grande do Sul passed the mark of 34 thousand indigenous cases. There were 54 deaths due to dengue in 2023.
