Rio de Janeiro hosted the 1st Seminar on Family and Social Security Law-Legal Links, held this Friday (04) at the Yacht Club, in the south of the city. The meeting brought together magistrates, academics and experts to discuss fundamental topics that interconnect these two areas of law.
The initiative aims to update an event that took place 15 years ago in Niterói, where magistrates shared reflections on the subject. The discussions of this edition resulted in the collaborative book “Social Security and Family – intersections between social security law and family law”.
The program consisted of in -depth debates and exchange of knowledge among the guest speakers. The opening was in charge of Judge Jean Albert de Souza Saadi, president of the Institute of Magistrates of Brazil (IMB) and academic coordinator of the seminar. Among those present were federal judge Fábio Souza, Judge Peterson Barroso Simão, president of TRE-RJ, Senator Carlos Portinho, the president of OAB-RJ, Ana Tereza Basilio.
The experts addressed the social security relationship of several Family Law figures, such as spouses, former spouses, companions, children and minors under guard or guardianship. Discussions contemplated both theoretical and practical aspects, analyzing the impacts of social security decisions on family courts and the evolution of affection relations over time.
In an interview with CNN Judge Jean Albert de Souza Saadi highlighted the importance of the intersection between family law and social security in legal practice.
“They are two branches with distinct principles, but they always deal with the essentials for human beings: the right to life. In the Family Court, we establish ties and often deal with the food issue, ensuring the support of those who need. Social security, in turn, has the function of supporting those whose families have no means of pension for death. Social Security Law. ”
Throughout the day, participants followed four thematic panels, which explored the evolution of jurisprudence, the challenges of legal practice and the need for an integrated approach to ensure security and social protection.
Judge Saadi evaluated the seminar as a crucial time to deepen this dialogue. “In recent years, family law has undergone major transformations, and it is natural that this evolution of society is reflected in legal norms,” said the judge.
The Institute of Magistrates of Brazil (IMB) plans new editions of the Seminar, with a forecast of holding in Brasilia and Amapá.
In addition to the debates, the event provided spaces for networking and the exchange of experiences between speakers and public.
