This weekend, Rio de Janeiro hosts Rio Coffee Nation, a meeting dedicated to Brazilian specialty and organic coffees. The exhibition has more than 40 producers from all regions of the country and aims to promote the production of the input and the beverage market that is on the table of most Brazilians every day. In a space in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the event is in its third edition and brings together farmers, market, connoisseurs and coffee consumers.
Over the two days of the exhibition, visitors will have access to tastings, lectures, recipes teaching different ways of preparing the beans, such as coffee desserts, pairings, sauces and drinks. There will also be two competitions: “best roasted coffee for espresso” and “Desafio Koar-step Rio de Janeiro” There will be more than 20 recipes and 12 lectures.
Sustainability is also highlighted at the event. The coffee grounds will be reused. All grain waste will be donated to a startup and will be turned into shoes. The brand will create a special sneaker for the 2023 edition of Rio Coffee Nation. The organizers will also recycle all the garbage, will not use plastic, the energy of the food court will be supplied by solar panels and all the carbon produced in the event will be converted into environmental actions in favor of the protection of the Amazon.
Brazil is the largest coffee producer and exporter in the world. According to the National Supply Company (Conab), Brazilian coffee producers should harvest 50.38 million bags in the 2022 harvest. The harvest has already reached 99% of the cultivated area. This production volume represents an increase of 5.6% compared to 2021. The average productivity of national coffee production should also grow and reach 27.4 bags per hectare, 3.7% higher than last year.
