Rio: PM arrests suspect for death of young man who mistakenly entered favela

The Rio de Janeiro Military Police arrested this Thursday (16) Antônio Styff Robert Santana, aged 19, known as “Paraíba”. He is suspected of involvement in the death of tourist Diely Silva, 34, murdered in December after mistakenly entering the Fontela Community, in Vargem Grande, in the west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The arrest was made on Rua Caminho do Fontela, based on information provided by Hotline.

According to investigations, Diely was a passenger in an app car and was killed when she passed a drug sales point in the community. “Paraíba” was with the 16-year-old teenager who has already been apprehended and José Paixão Agostinho Filho, known as “Meio Kilo”, who remains at large. The group allegedly blocked the vehicle from passing and shot at it.

Two other drug traffickers, Edgar Alves de Andrade, known as “Doca da Penha ou Urso”, and Carlos da Costa Neves, known as “Gardenal”, are also on the run. Both are linked to the Comando Vermelho faction and, according to the police, determined the rules of movement in the community to avoid invasions by rival groups. They would be hiding in Complexo da Penha, in the north of Rio.

After arrest, “Paraíba” was taken to the Capital Homicide Police Station, where the arrest warrant was served. He will be sent to a prison unit of the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat and will be available to the Court.

The police reinforce the importance of the public’s support in locating the others involved in the crime. Reports can be made anonymously through the Disque Denúncia channels: (21) 2253-1177, WhatsApp (21) 2253-1177, or via the Disque Denúncia RJ app.
