Five people were arrested this Monday (8), suspected of being part of a gang specializing in irregular aesthetic surgery, in Rio de Janeiro. The temporary arrest warrants were carried out by the Civil Police in the capital and in the municipalities of Rio das Ostras and Duque de Caxias.
According to the investigation by the Consumer Police (Decon), the suspects performed highly complex aesthetic procedures, such as liposuction, mammoplasty and silicone implants, but did not have any structure for possible complications.
According to the police, in November 2023, a victim underwent a liposuction procedure and suffered serious consequences, being admitted to a hospital in Baixada Fluminense. In the same month, the Civil Police carried out an operation and closed the Iguaçu Plásticas Day clinic, in Nova Iguaçu.
At the time, the Peruvian doctor Jaime Javier Garcia Caro and the Colombian Jean Paul Perez, who pretended to be an anesthetist, but were not registered with the Regional Council of Medicine, were arrested. Both were free, but were arrested again today.
Among those arrested are electrician Almir Paixão da Silveira and Rafaella Ferreira Trovão, identified as owners of an aesthetic clinic that operated irregularly. According to the police, despite not having medical expertise, Almir performed aesthetic procedures and was known as “Dr. Junior”.
The fifth person arrested is Antônia Gerda Araújo. According to Decon, the woman had attracted a patient to carry out an irregular aesthetic procedure at a clinic in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense.
The prisoners will be charged with criminal association, illegal exercise of their profession, performing highly dangerous services without authorization and very serious bodily injury. Everyone is at the disposal of justice.
A CNN was unable to locate the defense of those mentioned in the investigation.
