Witnesses said he was returning to the Wyndham Hotel, where he had been staying with his family since New Year’s.
Relatives of the victim said, in a statement to the Police, that he was returning from a store he owns in Madureira, in the north of Rio, from where he used to return late after receiving goods to supply the place.
According to reports, the advisor honked at a car that was in the hotel’s garage entrance. A man got out of the vehicle, shot Marcelo five times and fled.
In a statement, councilor Vera Lins lamented Marcelo’s death: “Very sad about what happened. Marcelo was a good man, who helped anyone in need. He leaves a wife and a teenage son because of the impatience that takes over people who think they are above any situation. A shame, God comfort your family”, he wrote.
