Rio Police find newborn taken from maternity ward; suspect is detained

The police found newborn baby Ravi Cunha, who had been kidnapped in the early hours of this Wednesday (1st) at the Maria Amélia Maternity Hospital, in the center of Rio de Janeiro. He was found in the Borel community, north of the city.

Ravi was taken by an unidentified woman, who entered and left the hospital with a bag. Hospital security cameras recorded the moment. The Civil Police were called and the case was registered at the 4th Police Station.

Military Police from UPP Borel received a report during a patrol in the community of Borel, north of Rio, which reported the whereabouts of the suspect.

The baby and the woman were located, the child was taken to the maternity ward and the suspect was taken to the 4th Police Station.

The case

The newborn disappeared around 1 am this Wednesday (1st) inside the Maria Amélia Maternity Hospital, in the center of Rio de Janeiro.

The disappearance was reported around 1:50 am by the mother and her companion after noticing the newborn’s absence from the bed.

Security cameras at the site recorded the moment an unidentified woman entered the health unit with a bag.
