Rio Police indicates Ana Paula Minerato for racism against singer

The model and influencer Ana Paula Minerato was indicted for racism by the Racial Crimes and Crime Police Station (Decradi) of the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police. The inquiry was launched after singer Ananda, from the melanin group Carioca, recorded a police report claiming that she was the target of offenses with racist content.

The information was confirmed by Delegate Rita Salim, head of DECRADI, who concluded that Ana Paula’s statements reinforce racist stereotypes.

Ana Paula was indicted based on Law 7.716/89, which deals with crimes resulting from discrimination or prejudice of race, color, ethnicity, religion or national origin, and provides for a sentence of 2 to 5 years imprisonment.

Now it will be up to the Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) to decide whether to file a formal complaint to the court.

Remember the case

The case gained repercussion after the release of audios in which Minerato would have made racist offenses directed at singer Ananda, at the time, current girlfriend of her former partner, rapper KT Gomez.

The repercussion led to his resignation from Band FM station, where he commanded a radio show, and his departure from the Fiel Gavião samba school, with which he kept a long partnership.

In a statement, Gavião justified the decision: “The decision was made after the disclosure of conduct incompatible with the values and principles we defend, including manifestations of a racist nature.” The Band, in turn, stated that “Ana Paula Minerato’s statements, even though they are personal, are not aligned with the station’s values and guidelines.”

After the opening of an investigative procedure by the São Paulo Secretariat of Justice and Citizenship, Minerato recorded a video confirmed the veracity of the audios and apologized. In tears, he said, “I want to apologize to everyone who was offended, because it was really an offense to a person I don’t even know.”

The influencer also accused her ex-boyfriend of leaking the audios with the intention of harming her.

The case now follows under analysis of the MPRJ, which will define the next legal steps against the model.
