Rio resumes childhood vaccination schedule after the arrival of Coronavac

The city of Rio de Janeiro resumes, this Wednesday (26), the vaccination schedule against Covid-19, for children aged 5 to 11 years. This week, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) advances and begins to vaccinate ten-year-old boys and girls.

The expectation is to close the week by immunizing everyone up to eight years old. Also according to the folder, the municipality vaccinated 46,916 children, which corresponds to only 8.3% of the target audience.

The resumption of immunization was possible due to a batch with 100 thousand doses of Coronavac that the capital received, this Monday (24). In addition to the Butantan immunizer, the pediatric dose of Pfizer will also be used for application in this age group.

The immunization schedule was paralyzed in the city last Wednesday (19), due to insufficient doses sent by the Ministry of Health of the Pfizer vaccine.

Thus, until this Tuesday (25), the vaccination posts worked only for the application of the third dose, and recap for children aged 11 years or with some type of comorbidity.

According to the secretary itself, the interval between the 1st and 2nd dose of Coronavac, for the public between 6 and 17 years old is 28 days. In the case of Pfizer, the interval is 8 weeks.
