Rio Health Secretary Daniel Soranz confirmed to CNN that the city of Rio de Janeiro will apply the booster dose to the entire vaccine population – currently people aged 12 and over – from next year.
According to him, the calendar will be released in December and the beginning of the reinforcement for the non-elderly population without comorbidities will start in January 2022, in the group of people aged 50 years.
Currently, the city of Rio has already vaccinated 843,947 people with a booster dose. The number represents just over 10% of all those vaccinated with the third dose across the country. Only in the last 10 days, for example, there were more than 200 thousand vaccinated in the capital. Already according to data from the Ministry of Health, were 7,892,858 who received the booster vaccine against Covid-19 in Brazil.
The prediction of the Municipal Health Department (SMS) is to continue applying the booster dose in the population this week. According to the calendar, people aged 62 and 61 will be vaccinated, maintaining the schedule of reserving one day for men and the other for women, and a third for recap in all people.
Until the next 30th, health workers who took the second dose in May can also look for posts to receive the booster. In December, it will be the turn of professionals in the area who received the second application in June.
Only in the city of Rio, 11,309,487 doses were applied and 4,696,855 people already have the complete vaccination schedule. Also according to the City Hall panel, 69.6% of the population has completed the cycle, that is, they have already taken the two doses of the vaccine or the single dose.
