Rio will require booster dose from people over 18 years old in vaccination passport

The city of Rio de Janeiro will expand the requirement for a booster dose against Covid-19 in the vaccine passport for people over 18 years old. The measure will take effect from April 4, considering entry into closed establishments such as bars, restaurants, gyms, museums and theaters. So far, the requirement only covers adults over 40 years old.

Municipal Health Secretary Daniel Soranz said that the epidemiological scenario remains favorable, according to the Special Committee to Combat Covid-19. “We are in the best scenario since the beginning of the pandemic, with a reduction in cases and hospitalizations. It is increasingly rare to find a serious patient with the new coronavirus “.

Despite the positive results, proof of vaccination remains mandatory until 70% of the population is vaccinated with the booster dose. “There are more than 640 thousand cariocas who are able to take their first booster dose”, reinforced Soranz.

The committee monitors the indicators of the pandemic in the context of Carnival in April. According to the secretary, no restrictive measures will be established. “Carnival is already happening without any change in the epidemiological scenario, without an increase in cases. The virus has the lowest transmission rate in the entire pandemic,” he said.
