Riot will record voice chat in Valorant to respond to reports

The management of Riot Games, which gave the world the League of Legends, made a very interesting update to the privacy policy back in April of this year. Since then, the document has officially stated that the company has the full right to record, analyze and use the data from the voice chat in its video games in case of receipt of relevant reports on the actions of the player. And since yesterday, June 26, it became known that this innovation is already planned to be launched in Valorant – the new competitive shooter will receive an update with access to voice chat on July 13.

True, there are a number of subtleties that will be of interest to the audience of the project. Firstly, the developers immediately clarified that at the moment the system for recording voice chat (and analyzing what exactly the player said) is working in a test format, so many decisions and developments will still be redone closer to the full release. Secondly, the developers simply did not dare to launch the latest system in all regions at once, so the innovation will be tested exclusively in North America and only in English. This means that insults and violations of the rules in other regions or in another language will not be recognized and punished by the system.

And, thirdly, company representatives believe that the new system does not affect the privacy of gamers’ data, while there will be a lot of benefits from recording and analyzing user voices. For example, now, after filing a complaint against a particular player, Riot Games will be able to analyze the phrases of the user who was reported and give a more detailed description of their decision to punish or pardon. That is, when one player insults another in a voice chat, and he files a complaint against the offender, the algorithms of Riot Games (or a whole army of technical support employees) will check the phrases spoken in order to punish the attacker as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, for the time being, it will not be possible to see how the new reporting system will work – although the testing of the voice chat recording system will start on July 13, the company does not plan to use the new complaints system yet. Specialists will only record the voice of users in order to train their algorithms to understand human speech, highlight offensive expressions and make fewer mistakes in the foreseeable future. And, probably, after the beta test, the system will work in all Riot Games games.
