RIS: Al. Tsipras continues on the slippery slope of populism and pseudology

The Ministry of Environment and Energy responds to the statements of the leader of the official opposition Alexis Tsipras after his visit to the Energy Regulatory Authority, pointing out, among other things, that with the measures of subsidizing the accounts, households and businesses in Greece are less burdened than most European countries, as it has effectively entered the ceiling of the electricity retail market.

It specifically states the following:

“Six second nature. Alexis Tsipras continues on the slippery slope of populism and pseudology and it is sad in this really difficult situation, due to the international energy crisis, to seek partisan benefits with this cynicism.

Yesterday, at the Athens Bar Association, he returned to “I do not pay”, characterizing the adjustment clause as illegal. Today, the Energy Regulatory Authority (RAE) falsely claimed that 99% of the increases in the wholesale market are passed on to consumers.

The official data refutes once again his non-existent allegations. With the subsidies implemented by the government, households and businesses in Greece are less burdened than in most European countries, as the support measures have effectively entered the ceiling of the retail electricity market. An illustrative example are the countries of the Iberian Peninsula that SYRIZA constantly invokes, which have higher prices than Greece.

Mr. Tsipras went so far as to claim that the adjustment clause is a unilateral commercial policy of the electricity supply companies. Why didn’t he say the same when, under his own government, RAE requested data from the electricity providers for the increases in the bills in the period 2017-2018, which were caused by the activation of the adjustment clause in the low-voltage household, commercial and agricultural tariffs? Wasn’t the clause illegal then? ”
