The first round of consultations was completed today in a positive atmosphere, through successive teleconferences, on the protection of the marine natural environment and marine biodiversity, with the initiative of the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, George Amyras and the participation of representatives of 18 Environmental announced today the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
Mr. Amyras presented the plans of the two Joint Ministerial Decisions concerning the organization and operation of the Marine Wildlife Outbreak Management Network and the operation of the Wildlife Conservation Centers (KEPAP).
The participants were invited, based on their many years of experience in the management and care of wild animals in the field, to submit their comments and observations within 10 days, in order to be included in the final draft of the JMC.
The consulted JMA of outbursts defines the organization and operation of a national network, so that outbreaks are dealt with scientifically with the main axes of the protection of species, the well-being of species, the protection of public health, the collection of useful scientific data and its education common in matters of management and protection of marine fauna and the harmonious coexistence with organisms of marine fauna.
The Outbreak Network, to be set up, will consist of specialized Outbreak Management Teams for cetaceans, seals, sea turtles and sharks and will be led by experienced scientists, veterinarians, biologists and biologists. , who have occasionally managed outbreaks.
The Management Teams undertake, based on certain protocols, the overall management of the incidents, from the detection of marine mammals, their rescue, care and reintegration in case of survival or necropsy and burial in case of death, respectively. In addition, the design of an electronic system is foreseen, where all the information related to each outbreak incident will be recorded.
For the licensing and operation of Care Centers in our country, the draft of the relevant JMC provides the terms and conditions that will ensure legality and will close a backlog of decades, so that the country finally acquires licensed Centers.
“At RIS we are working hard to create a well-organized network for the management of outbreaks and to save as many species of marine life as we can, always having at our side the Environmental Organizations and the existing structures,” said Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, George Amyras: “We are also laying the foundations for the proper and reliable operation of treatment centers and first aid stations, which will operate under strict conditions and rules.”
