Britain is facing economic challenges and needs stability and unity, said today Rishi Sunakin his first public statement since being named its new leader of the ruling Conservative Party and in view of assuming the prime ministership of the country.
“There is no doubt that we are facing a serious economic challenge”, Sunak said. “We now need stability and unity. My highest priority will be to unite the party and our country”, he stressed.
Pledging to carry out his duties with dignity and humility, he said he feels privileged to serve the party he loves and give back to his country to which he owes so much.
“We only have one chance, to succeed”
The new British prime minister appealed for unity in the Conservative caucus, making it clear that the Tories have only one chance to achieve their goals. As he said, this is an “existential threat” for the party.
In the closed-door meeting after his election as the new leader, Sunak ruled out the possibility of calling early parliamentary elections, while warning thehis party must unite or it will die.
O King Charles is expected to accept the resignation of the outgoing Prime Minister on Tuesday in Buckingham Liz Truss and to appoint her successor.
