Rita Lee spoke about her own death in an autobiography: “He was never a good example, but he was good people”

Known for her acidic humor and for not mincing her tongue, Rita Lee became known for her striking phrases and controversial statements. And not even her own death escaped his fine irony. In 2016, she released “Rita Lee, an Autobiography”, in which she humorously imagined what the moments after her departure would be like. She died on Monday night (9), aged 75.

In the section entitled “Prophecy”, Rita Lee describes a series of events: “When I die, I can imagine the kind words of those who hate me. Some radio stations will play my songs free of charge, colleagues will say that I will be missed in the music world, who knows, maybe even give my name to a dead-end street.”

The text – as well as the irony – continues: “The fans, those sincere ones, will pick up the covers of my records and chant “Ovelha Negra”, the TVs must already have a summary of my trajectory up their sleeves to show on the daily news and a little note in the obituary of some magazines it will come out. On virtual networks, some will say: ‘Wow, I thought the old lady had already died, lol’. No politician will dare to attend my funeral, since I have never been on the platform of any of them and I would get up from the coffin to boo them.”

In the end, Rita Lee imagines her afterlife fate. “Meanwhile, I will be soulfully present in heaven playing my autoharp and singing to God: “Thank you, Lord, finally sedated”.

And, of course, an epitaph could not be missing, which would sound bad if it were not created by herself: “She was never a good example, but she was good people”.
