River resumes vaccination against covid-19 with new dose for variant jn.1

The capital of Rio de Janeiro will start, on Wednesday (7), the resumption of vaccination against Covid-19, with updated doses for the variant JN.1. According to the Municipal Secretary of Health (SMS), the city received 20,700 doses of the immunizer, which aims to protect against the latest strain of coronavirus and reduce the risk of hospitalization and death.

The first group to be vaccinated is that of the elderly residents in long -term institutions (ILPI), focusing on the protection of the most vulnerable people.

In addition to doses for adults, the municipality also received 13,040 vaccines from Pfizer Baby, intended for children from six months to 4 years. The measure seeks to ensure the continuity of protection against the disease, with the recommendation that the individuals who took the last dose at least one year ago have received the reinforcement.

In the coming days, according to the arrival of new doses, vaccination will be expanded to other priority groups. Vaccines will be available in 240 vaccination rooms spread throughout the Primary Care Units (such as family clinics and municipal health centers), as well as the two units of the Carioca Vaccination Center, Botafogo and Park Shopping Campo Grande.

SMS also reinforced the importance of not neglecting vaccination against other seasonal diseases, such as flu, yellow fever and measles. The campaign against Influenza is still underway, with the day of the day scheduled for next Saturday (10). In relation to measles and yellow fever, vaccination is fundamental in the face of recent outbreaks recorded in neighboring states.
