The level of the river reached 4.74 meters, advanced over streets and invaded dozens of houses, leaving residents scared.

Given the critical scenario, the city decreed an emergency situation on the night of Wednesday (20). Prior to that, the administration had already issued a warning that families in risk areas would maintain organized belongings and were prepared for a possible departure from the site.

According to the Alagoas Civil Defense, at least four rivers have overflowed in recent hours: the Jitituba River, in flexeiras; the Camaragibe River, in Camaragibe matrix; the Manguaba River, in Porto Calvo; In addition to the Santo Antônio River itself, which also crosses the municipality of São Miguel dos Milagres. Monitoring is done by the Secretariat of Environment and Water Resources of Alagoas.

In the capital, Maceió, concern is especially turned to the slope areas, where the risk of landslides increases. Several streets were also flooded, making it difficult to travel and expand the inconvenience.

The Balance of Civil Defense points out that in the last five days, 722 people have been forced to leave their homes in 13 municipalities. Of this total, 267 are homeless, that is, they lost their homes and depend on public shelters, while 455 were displaced, they had to temporarily leave the homes and seek shelter with relatives, friends or safe places.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) maintains the alert for the possibility of isolated rainfall in the state on Thursday (22), which maintains the authorities in attention and the population on alert.
