Seven rifles were seized and five people were arrested during an action by the Military Police, this Wednesday (30), in the community of Muzema, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro. One of the criminals did not resist and died on the way to the hospital.
The arrest of the criminals took place during a routine patrol by the Special Operations Command (COE) with information from the Intelligence Service in a forested area in the region.

According to the state government, the seizure reinforces the need for border control to prevent this type of war weapons from entering the country, according to a proposal defended by governor Cláudio Castro.
“This year alone, the police seized more than 540 rifles. We are talking about weapons of war that easily enter the country’s borders. We need to review our criminal legislation and rigorously punish anyone who carries weapons of this caliber,” said Castro.
The governor also explained that this type of weapon is not manufactured in the State of Rio de Janeiro and of the rifles seized by the PM this year, 90% were produced in other countries.
According to the Military Police, during the incident in Muzema, two pistols, magazines and ammunition were also seized.
In a statement, the authority stated that policing has been reinforced in the region since the attacks on buses that took place in the last 15 days, when criminals used collectives as barricades.
