RJ: 8,500 people had to leave their homes because of the rain in recent days

The number of people who had to leave their homes in the state of Rio de Janeiro rose to 8,500. According to the State Civil Defense, 700 are homeless and 7,800 are homeless. Since Saturday, the Fire Department has performed more than 360 calls.

Six municipalities declared a State of Emergency: Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Natividade, Trajano de Moraes, Santa Maria Madalena, São Sebastião do Alto and Cachoeiras de Macacu. Since the weekend, the areas most affected by the rain are the Serrana Region, North and Northwest of the state. The highest accumulated rainfall in the last 24 hours was at the stations in Duque de Caxias and São Gonçalo, with 60.8mm and 52.8mm respectively.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology, wind gusts reached 66.6 km/h at Pico do Couto Petrópolis and 49.7 km/h at Rio Claro station.

The State Civil Defense and the Fire Department remain mobilized to prevent and minimize damage caused. All regions of the state recorded areas of flooding, landslides, flooding and falling trees.

Although the areas of instability have lost strength, for the next few hours, there is forecast of light to moderate rain isolated during the morning and moderate to occasionally strong rain showers, in an isolated way, from the afternoon, in all regions of the state. . As a result, the possibility of landslides remains moderate to very high.
